Creative leadership to stimulate youth volunteering

Vinspired is an independent charity dedicated to helping young people volunteer in ways that matter to them. It was set up in 2006 following the Russell Commission report 'A national framework for youth action and engagement' which recommended the idea of developing youth volunteering opportunities within the UK to help young people gain vital skills and experience, do something positive for society and create a sense of community. V creates partnerships between business, government and young people. Its' work is funded by the Cabinet Office, Office of the Third Sector and by over 150 companies, trusts, foundations and private individuals through a matched funding scheme - which doubles the value of new investments in youth volunteering. After having worked with Bhanita to align the board and key stakeholders behind a compelling vision and some clear, measurable and ambitious strategic goals, V partnered with LAB to help develop internal innovation, facilitation and creative leadership capability among it's staff to foster new ideas and approaches to youth volunteering and to make the targets a reality.

Creative leadership training

LAB trained 100 V leaders in tools and techniques for idea generation, creative facilitation and creative leadership. As double value we also worked on live briefs in the training, generating ideas and creative solutions to live V projects as we went, many of which were subsequently implemented.

Teambuilding and culture

LAB ran team building workshops to encourage cross learning, sharing of success, best practice and to develop a positive, nurturing culture.

Idea generation on a big scale

One of our most ambitious and nerve wracking events - LAB trained tools and skills of creativity in one hour, and ran a creative ideas session with 300 youth leaders aged 16-24, at the annual V conference to generate ideas to encourage volunteering in their area. Working with a very different audience to the professional or corporate delegates and under huge time pressure meant a fresh approach was needed for us to ensure we were able to engage, teach and inspire on a huge level and get results within hours. We loved doing it and from the ideas, energy and enthusiasm generated and the positive feedback we know it was a big success!

“…outstanding !!!  All the activities were thought-provoking, inspirational, energising and i gained something from everything we did.  The techniques were extremely well illustrated, clearly explained and accessible to everyone (i believe).  The warmth and energy of the facilitators (bhanita and clare) gave really helped to ensure excellent participation levels.  I absolutely loved the session and will go away with a real energy for both embedding these new skills in my own work and championing creativity across the organisation."
